We begin our journey through the book of 1 CORINTHIANS.
Today: an introduction!
Let’s go!
Starting Sunday, February 10, 2024, we will begin a Bible study on the book of 1 Corinthians.
Join us!
Paul wraps-up his letter with final greetings, instructions and hopes for this congregation of flawed but beloved and redeemed people!
We have come a long way through this book.
May we remember, live, and share it in heart, mind, and action!
Thanks be to God!
This long chapter is considered by many the climax of the book as it deals with issues Jesus’ resurrection and our own!
Paul puts it succinctly: “if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.”
The stakes don’t get higher than that!
But take heart, Christ Jesus has been raised and we will be too!
Thanks be to God!
Today echoes some of our discussion on the Gifts of the Spirit two weeks ago, but gets more into the specifics of Speaking in Tongues and how that should (and should not) be done and why.
This also informs how we are to worship in peace.
This is one of the most used and heard chapters in Scripture; usually at weddings.
People love the description of this greatest gift of Love; and rightly so!
But many don’t see it in the context of the gift of the Holy Spirit and way to pursue our Christian lives with all (not just a bride or groom)!
Christian bodies and denominations emphasize the Gifts of the Spirit differently.
For some, it is the defining characteristic of the Church and faith. For others, it is one of many.
Some demand that the a certain gift is necessary to prove you are a Christian. Others see the true Spiritual Gift as that of Faith and salvation.
How should we see it – and why?
Join us and find out!
The divisions in the Corinthian congregation extended to the “haves” and “have nots”.
This isn’t surprising, but it weaved itself into their fabric so much that the way the celebrated the Lord’s Supper became an object of disunity and disdain rather than unity in the Body of Christ Jesus.
How twisted!
May our celebration of His Body and Blood bring us together – always!
People try to justify their behaviors – even if they are bad ones. Christians do this, too; even using earthly ‘logic’ to do so!
But the underlying issue for all of it boils down to “do all for the glory of God!”
So ask yourself about your actions: is this for God’s glory?
