It’s OK to Grieve, but …

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Grief can be overwhelming and shadow everything and everyone else around us. But God gave us this emotion, too. We even see it played out in the Lord Jesus!

What do we do when grieved?

What does it mean for a Christian to be grieved?

“It’s OK to BE ANGRY but …”

Today we begin our new sermon series, “It’s OK to … but …” with the topic of ANGER.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun do down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.

Ephesians 4:26-27 (ESV)

God gave us emotions, including anger, for a reason. But like all things, we need to use them within the bounds God has given us. Outside those bounds lie danger and sin. So, how can we be angry but not sin?

“It’s OK to BE A DEMOCRAT/REPUBLICAN but …”

Today we look at the divisive topic of cultural politics in our “It’s OK to … but …” series. Specifically, that of being a Christian and also a DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN.

The LORD said, … “They have rejected Me from being king over them.”

The amount of venom sprayed forth from people (many Christians!) onto others simply because of their party affiliation and views is disheartening and, often, disgusting.

What should be the mindset, attitude, and actions of a Christian within the realm of our cultural politics – and why?

Much is made of the fact that some Christians drink and others staunchly eschew all alcohol and the dangers involved.

Some of you say, “We can do whatever we want to!” But I tell you that not everything may be good or helpful. We should think about others and not about ourselves…

When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God…

I always try to please others instead of myself, in the hope that many of them will be saved.

1 Corinthians 10:23-24, 31, 33 (CEV)

Are Christians really free? What does that mean for how we can and should act? How do our emotions play into our freedoms and actions?

These tough questions play out for us every day in the decisions we make.

More specifically, there are many areas of our lives that get ignored, glossed over, over emphasized, or vandalized – and that shouldn’t be!

In our new sermon series, “It’s OK to … but …”, we are going to take a look at some of the important and practical issues every Christian faces and see what they mean for us as followers of Jesus.

Starting on Sunday, September 1, 2019, we will begin a new sermon series: “GOD’S (SECRET?) AGENT: Caretakers, Entrusted by God.”

We will look at what “agents” are, what we are to care for, how we are to care for them, why, and for whom. We will look at what it means to be trusted – and the responsibility (and forgiveness!) that comes from it.

Identity

Identity seems like a simple concept, an answer characterized in the words of “The Who” with the question, “Who Are You?”

As with many things, the question is deeper and more complicated than it seems. Our identity is shaped, not only by our view and beliefs about ourselves, but also by others, be it good or bad.

Starting on February 3, 2019, we will begin a new sermon series on “IDENTITY,” with perspectives and answers about who we are according to the Church, family, our success, our idols, and, most importantly, God.
